InnoDom Cologne is an important new addition to Cologne's start-up ecosystem. This innovation and start-up centre on the campus of the University of Cologne combines science, research and entrepreneurial creativity. With 164 coworking spaces available both in the open office and in homebases, InnoDom offers optimal conditions for start-ups.
The building, designed by kadawittfeldarchitektur, impresses with its dynamic architecture and harmonious integration into its surroundings. The five-storey solitaire offers young founders round-the-clock access to optimal working conditions. Linda Leers, Project Manager Architecture at kadawittfeldarchitektur: ‘It was important for us to establish a connection with the neighbourhood. This is achieved, among other things, through the two LIKE IT, two monochrome-coloured, two-storey rooms with panoramic glazing, which communicate the community use and the unconventional start-up character of the ‘think tank’ in Cologne's urban space."
The centrepiece of this building is not only the architecture, but also the sophisticated lighting design. Our direct-emitting Matric R3 light line runs through the entire building as a design element and creates an inviting atmosphere. The open technology, installed under the concrete ceilings, lends the space an industrial elegance and reflects the openness of the start-up spirit.
On the upper floors, our Matric light line provides the work landscapes in the open-plan area and the home bases with professional light. Our Lucille desk luminaires in the open-plan area also provide optimum lighting.
Dorette Faulhaber from arens faulhaber lichtplaner: ‘’Keep it simple' was the motto for our planning and realisation. We wanted to show everything openly and make the technology visible. The team planning was uncomplicated and decisive." Launched in spring 2020, InnoDom Cologne opened as planned in June 2023. Faulhaber: ‘The commitment and open cooperation in the planning team is reflected in the result: an inviting and creative ambience for courageous founders.’
The outstanding lighting design by Dorette Faulhaber and Corinna Arens, which contributes to the unique atmosphere of the building, was honoured with the German Lighting Design Award 2024. Ulrike Kleren, Lightnet: ‘I am delighted that our Innodom Cologne project has won the German Lighting Design Award 2024. This success is the result of many years of positive collaboration with Corinna Arens and Dorette Faulhaber. Our projects have always been characterised by special challenges that we have mastered together."
We at Lightnet are proud to be part of this unique project that promotes new ideas and entrepreneurship and thank all our cooperation partners for the great collaboration.
