The community room in the St Clare's development in Dublin, Ireland, serves as the central social hub for 225 flats. While the majority of the estate was built in a modern style, this space is housed in a historic monastery chapel. Saul Design Architects faced the challenge of transforming this sacred space into a vibrant communal area that serves as a meeting place, workspace and concierge service hub for the residents.
The lighting concept planned by Dlight preserves the historical character of the monastery chapel while bringing fresh energy into the space. The building's high ceiling allowed for the integration of impressive architectural lighting elements such as our Ringo Star luminaire, which creates a harmonious combination of classic charm and modern design.
The lighting serves as an essential aspect of the design concept. Our Ringo Star luminaire is not only a visual highlight, but also ensures pleasant and uniform illumination of the room. Its unique shape and high-quality workmanship perfectly match the historical ambience of the chapel and at the same time set modern accents.
In addition to the Ringo Star luminaire, other light sources have been strategically placed to emphasise different areas of the communal space. This means that the communal space can be used flexibly, whether for social evenings, concentrated work or relaxed meetings. This versatility supports the different needs of the residents and makes the room a popular meeting place in the neighbourhood.
Special attention was paid to integrating the lighting into the existing architecture. Dlight managed to design and position the lighting elements in such a way that they emphasise the architectural details of the monastery chapel and highlight its beauty.
