Until a few years ago, libraries were mainly places for lending books. Nowadays, many are transformed into places of learning and communication. One example is the new community library in Steinhagen. On the 450 square meters visitors will find much more than just a library.
The new community library is a cultural centre, a meeting point, workplace and retreat at the same time. Computer workstations, a seminar room and a modern digital library system are just as much a part of the comfort of the new community library as a winter garden with places to sit and read.
The entire ground floor and parts of the basement were planned and extended according to the specific needs of the library. The colour scheme of the individual areas serves as a guidance system: the children's library receives visitors in a warm orange and the area for adults is designed in dark violet and anthracite.
The lighting concept is also perfectly matched to the architecture and interior design of the library. To give the rooms a special accent, in addition to the basic lighting, wallwashers and pendant luminaires from the Beam Me Up series by Lightnet were installed in the reading rooms. The conical white shade shape of the luminaire is a decorative eye-catcher and in combination with the golden interior reflector, looks elegant and modern at the same time.
